Team

We are two friends with a common love for coffee, Chardonnay and Billie Holiday. We met while studying design at Cégep du Vieux Montréal.

We created a studio in our image, where listening to customer needs and respecting the planet are the main focus of our practice. Maybe we are a little crazy, but we like to think that our ideas will inspire others to follow our example.

 Our approach

Four fundamental pillars guide our sustainable design practice

RESPECT FOR THE BUILDING'S

HISTORY

Preserve or retrofit as many existing elements as possible, honouring architectural heritage and managing construction waste.

 Our team

Jean-Francois Rivet
Technical specialist and project managament

I am J-F, associate interior designer and co-founder of Passé Present Design After completing my studies in interior design at Cégep du Vieux Montréal in 2014, I started  a sales career for a well-known ceramic and plumbing retailer, catering to design professionals. While working full-time, I completed various personal interior design mandates, ranging from residential to municipal projects.

Over time, I have developed a design approach where the client is at the center of my concerns.

Known for my rigour and organization skills, I like to establish priorities and stay on course so that each project runs smoothly. Because of my fascination with buildings and how everything works, I mostly focus on drafting and technical details.

I love jazz!  I often compare project management to my favorite instrument: the drums.  I keep the beat while guiding other musicians through the song, making sure they stay on tempo.

Paying it forward is important to me. This is why I often volunteer my time helping emerging designers, as an internship supervisor, guest speaker or panelist in various CEGEPs and universities in the Montreal area.

On weekends, I can be found in my kitchen, cooking up homemade dishes or, weather permitting, on hiking trails, observing nature.

Cathy Thibault
Eco specialist and product specification

My name is Cathy Thibault, associate and co-founder of Passé Présent Design.  I am a qualified interior designer with 10 years experience in the industry.

I obtained a Bachelor’s Diploma in Human Environment from Concordia University and later studied to receive a LEED Green associate accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)

I like to believe that incorporating this ecological know-how into my creative practice helps me deliver greener, smarter and healthier interior spaces for my clients.

My professional experience is eclectic, ranging from municipal level non-profits to corporate environments. My employment in the store planning department of Reitmans Canada Ltd allowed me to appreciate the importance of customer experience in my design philosophy.

When I am not running a design firm, I am a wife and mother to two beautiful creative children and a hilarious cat.  I enjoy spending time with friends and family over a glass or two of wine.  Work schedule permitting, I look forward to turning off my phone while camping and hiking in nature.
